INTRODUCTION:

Welcome to the 12th year of PISA (Project International Soccer Academy) endorsed by Kelme Sports" run in conjunction with Watford Football Club (English Championship League).

PISA is delighted to have joined forces with Championship Side Watford Football Club. They will be heavily involved with the planning and the coaching side of the programme which again combines the excellent - and unique - mix of soccer and English.

In 2008, the Elite Soccer Academy will again be based at Epsom College and offers a really high quality programme with top level coaching.

The Elite Soccer Academy is designed for those who play regular soccer to a good standard and it is an intensive course. For those who do not play to quite such a high standard, we strongly recommend a more recreational sport camp instead. If we see at the beginning of the camp that you have a beginner level or just want recreational soccer camp during the course, we will transfer you to a more recreational camp in a different location. (After registration you will need to fill out a soccer ability form)

In addition to joining forces with Watford, bringing all their expertise and influence to PISA Academy, PISA will again be endorsed by Kelme who are fast becoming a household name in soccer clothing and especially boots (well known names associated with Kelme are Tacchinardi & Josemi (Villareal), Aliadiare (Middlesborough), J Lloyd Samuel (Aston Villa), Davis (Derby), Xisco (Real Betis), Guiza (Getafe) and Raul Bravo (Real Madrid).

The "partnership" between an established incoming UK youth tour operator and a major international sportswear company has proved to be a winning combination and the quality of the product from the location to the facilities to the actual coaching has always commented on in glowing terms by all who have seen the Academy in action.

PISA has welcomed football loving youngsters from the USA, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong, Egypt, South Africa, Russia, Germany, Hungary, Austria, Italy, Finland, Switzerland, Spain, Morocco, Israel, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Latvia, Mali, China, the Maldives and the UAE. The youngsters gel as a group through the games, tournaments, skill sessions and simply through the communal living; this has resulted in some notable victories for Academy teams in the matches organized against local English club teams.

ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE OPTION

The English Programme is a central part of the package PISA provide.

Students have 12 hours contact time per week and there are normally no more than 15 students in a class.

A lot of emphasis is placed in lessons on trying to get the students to interact and converse in English as much as possible. This is facilitated by providing students with interesting topics and communicative activities that help to stimulate and encourage language use. Each centre has a Director of Studies who coordinates the English programme. This involves organizing the testing on the first morning, monitoring the day-to-day teaching, providing advice and assistance to teachers, and meeting with representatives of the various groups at the centre.

There is also an overall Project International English Coordinator who visits each centre regularly to check that the English programme is running well and of a high standard.

There is a separate teaching syllabus for PISA lower and higher level students. This clearly states what topics the students are going to cover in each lesson and how much of the course will be devoted to either communicative language use or grammatical development. PISA teachers all follow the syllabus, however, there is sufficient flexibility built in to allow teachers the opportunity to integrate their own ideas and materials.

PISA has a wide range of communicative resource materials and textbooks available to PISA's teachers. These are full of interesting and exciting language activities that PISA teachers use with the students.

Textbooks commonly used are OK, Clockwise, and Accelerate.

The additional resource materials PISA has at each centre include the following:
• Jet Primary 1, 2, and 3
• Timesaver Grammar Activities
• Timesaver London
• Timesaver Plays
• Timesaver Storyboard
• Timesaver Project work
• Timesaver Customs and Lifestyles in the UK and Ireland
• Timesaver Listening
• Timesaver Newspaper Articles
• Timesaver Speaking Activities: Advanced
• Reward Starter, Pre-Intermediate, and Upper-Intermediate
• Project International Ideas Book

A end of course certificate is awarded to each student with some added comments made by their teacher.

Those not taking the EFL English Classes option have supervised multi activity sessions. These include tennis, swimming, water polo, volleyball, basketball, squash, table tennis, badminton, and lots more!

The Academy in 2008 will be located at the beautiful Epsom College

Close to the market town of Epsom and the famous Epsom Downs with its world renowned race course where the Derby is held each year, Epsom College nestles in 80 acres at the foot of the Downs yet only 15 miles from central London with its theatres, museums, and wide-ranging cultural opportunities. The College was built in the early 1850's and has beautiful Gothic style buildings. The soccer pitches are of the highest quality. The college is little more than a 5 minute walk to the town center.

Both from home and abroad, Epsom College is easily accessible. Gatwick and Heathrow airports are only 40 minutes away by taxi, the M25 motorway 3 miles away, with easy access to London by car or the 30 minute regular train service to Victoria and Waterloo.  MAP

Accommodation at Epsom is in Fayrer House. Rooms are of a good standard and consist of a mixture of single, doubles and a few triples. Rooms are spacious, airy, nicely decorated and comfortable and there are plenty of showers & toilet facilities near to each room.

Note PISA cannot guarantee specific rooms for any student in advance.

FOOD: Epsom has an exceptional reputation for high quality food in its excellent dining room. Emphasis is placed on a good dietary balance as well as popular

food allowing for different cultural tastes! There are three meals provided each day: traditional English as well as continental breakfasts; lunch and dinner with hot/cold options, a vegetarian choice as well as a salad bar.

The aim remains very much the same: to help all participants appreciate the different dimensions that the game has to offer.

They will learn through skill sessions, DVD presentations, team games and through making new friends from all over the world in a social soccer environment. Boys will appreciate that football is fun and truly an international game. The fundamentals of soccer will be taught in addition to the roles, positional play, teamwork, ball control, team and individual techniques and the essence of fair play.

The weekly programme is laid below but the course covers intensive skill sessions, small sided as well as full side competitive games, video/lecture sessions, goalkeeping teach-ins as well as visits to well known stadia and/or professional matches.

On the first day, groups are established based on age and ability. Campers will have on average between 3 to 4 hours of soccer per day (except during excursion day).

All PISA soccer coaching staff are fully qualified English FA coaches.

PISA Coaches have included John Byrne, (who played in the 1991 FA Cup Final and represented The Republic of Ireland 29 times including at the 1990 World Cup finals in Italy), Russel Bromage (ex Bristol City, Port Vale & Brighton), Neville Chamberlain (ex Stoke City & Port Vale) as well as several other ex professional players who have become coaches in their own right.

In 2008 PISA will be using the Watford Youth Academy’s Coaching staff in addition to their own coaches.
PISA hope to welcome guest appearances from Kelme sponsored English professionals, who will assist with coaching in the afternoon, give demonstrations, mix with the Academy students and pose for photographs with them. PISA will also hope to receive visits from some of the Watford Senior team and PISA will be visiting training grounds to watch professional sides in pre season training (subject to availability).

In addition to PISA top quality coaching staff, PISA have their own staff on site 24 hours a day. A Programme Director will oversee all aspects of the programme and they are in constant liaison with the soccer coaches, other staff, the school representatives, caterers, group leaders and the students themselves, Head office etc. Under the Programme Director, PISA has an Activities Coordinator and a Welfare & Pastoral Care Coordinator with Activity Staff to plan & organize the multi sport sessions, and Teaching Staff to take care of the teaching. All staff are chosen for their ability to work with children and look after their various needs. They are aware that students are away from home, some of them for the first time and pastoral care is a major priority. All staff accompany the students on their trips and are responsible for getting the students up in the mornings, ensuring they eat properly, planning evening activities and ensuring they get to bed at the appropriate time. A structured evening programme will include soccer related events (e.g DVD coaching and tactics presentations, tournaments, videos of famous matches) as well as non soccer related events
(eg: discos, barbecues, filmshows and other indoor Sports). PISA staff are on hand throughout the day and evening.
